Lanefoot Farm is fantastic.
Helen and Gareth are excellent hosts and the farm is perfectly positioned to climb Whinlatter and surrounding areas or to view the ospreys - and yes, with a good scope, you can see the osprey next from the campsite.
My wife and I pitched our tent and found the nest within two days and spent a lot of time watching them fly around.
We loved the position, the freedom to create your own pitch without two strict a regime, the night time camp fires, a must on any site I think, Gareth and Helen, the owners were very helpful, the showers and the washroom, the onsite shop and the peaceful location.
There is also an understanding on the site that people are quiet after 10pm.
This doesn't stop people sitting out until all hours but it did help keep the site quiet in the evening.
We thought that there were too few toilets and wash basins for a camp of this size.
At peak times for washing and toileting, these facilities are quite inadequate.
Part of the top field was a little muddy along the main driveway that was used by cars - this could do with some gravel to make it a bit more user friendly.
Having said that, this is camping and if we wanted everything perfect and comfortable we would have gone to a hotel or stayed at home!
We will definitely return to Lane Foot and would recommend it to everyone.
